Using a checklist for moving help keep you from forgetting things. Important matters, like turning on the electrical power in your new home, or filling up the heating oil tank. Needless to say you need to make your own moving guidelines, yet you can begin with the tips here.
Checklist For Relocating - A Month Prior To The Move
- Send your change of home address forms to post office.
- Obtain records for school transfers, in case you have kids.
- Find a moving company, and make reservations.
- Give your new home address to friends and family.
- Have a garage sale or otherwise lighten up the load.
Checklist For Moving - One Or Two Weeks Before
- Move your banking accounts to your new place.
- Return hired movies, books to library, and so on.
- Have your prescription medications transferred to the new area.
- Clean your house.
- Call for power shut-offs and new connections.
- Get rid of stuffs that will not be moved.
- Begin packing and labling containers.
- Prepare and pack an "essentials" box for arrival (toiletries, paper plates, and the like.).
- Last moving plans (try to make hotel bookings; get maps, and so on.).
Checklist For Moving Day
- Be sure you eat.
- Start early.
- Check out all the rooms and storage area.
- Switch off all lights, lock the doors.
- Give the house keys to the new user or real estate agent.
There will probably be many more items to put to your personal list. Begin listing anything you think of once you know when you'll be moving. Could you have a new phone ready to use when you arrive at the new home? Will you need to come back across the state since you forgot about a safe-deposit box? To prevent problems such as these, start early on your check list for moving.
